Reiseverlauf

1
Assemble by 12:00 PM at the TRC (Tourist Reception Centre) or Srinagar Airport (SXR). Board private vehicles for a scenic drive along the roaring Sindh River on the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH-1), passing walnut groves, apple orchards, and chinar-lined hamlets. Arrive at Shitkadi base camp (7,800 ft), located just before Sonamarg. Check into alpine tents pitched alongside the river. Complete paperwork verification for Jammu & Kashmir Tourism and local administration permits. Attend an evening trek briefing on high-altitude hydration, Leave-No-Trace principles, and army checkpoint protocols. Dinner and overnight stay in tents at Shitkadi.
2
The Climb: Begin your trek after breakfast with a steady, steep ascent through silver birch, maple, and pine forests.

The Views: Emerge onto the high pasture of Table Top, taking in aerial panoramas of the Sonamarg valley and the Thajiwas Glacier. Stop for tea at a local shepherd (Bakarwal) hut.

The Camp: Continue past the tree line along the banks of the Nichnai stream. Cross boulder beds into a broad, U-shaped valley to reach the campsite at Nichnai (11,500 ft). Settle into your tents, hydrate with hot garlic soup, and rest. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
3
Nichnai Pass (13,100 ft): Start at 6:30 AM with a steady climb across a rocky trail alongside the riverbed. Tackle the final steep moraine to reach the wind-swept ridge of Nichnai Pass, catching your first view of the vast Himalayan troughs beyond.

Descent into the Valley of Flowers: Descend through green meadows carpeted with red, yellow, and violet alpine wildflowers. Wade across a clear stream to reach the campsite near the edge of Vishansar Lake (12,000 ft).

The Lake: Spend the afternoon walking to the lake shore, watching the water shift from turquoise to deep cobalt under passing clouds. Overnight stay in tents near Vishansar.
4
The Twin Lakes View: Start early, skirting the edge of Vishansar to reach its twin, Krishansar Lake. Begin a steep 2-hour zigzagging ascent up the ridge to Gadsar Pass (13,800 ft), the highest geographic point of the trek. Look back to capture the classic vista of both lakes lying side-by-side in the amphitheater below.

Gadsar Descent & Army Post: Descend into pristine meadows filled with wild iris and forget-me-nots. Pass the floating ice chunks of untouched Gadsar Lake (12,200 ft)—the "Lake of Flowers." Continue downhill past snow bridges to the Gadsar Army Checkpoint. Present original government photo IDs for routine military verification before pitching camp on the meadows of Gadsar (10,700 ft). Overnight stay in tents.
5
Ascend through rolling moraine terrain and the desolate, high-altitude Megalithic plains of Jagmarg. Cross a series of gentle ridges flanked by the peaks of the Pakistan-administered border range in the far distance. Arrive at Satsar (12,100 ft), a serene cluster of seven interconnected alpine lakes nestled in mountain hollows. Pitch camp on the grassy banks. After lunch, take a leisurely acclimatization walk to explore the third and fourth lakes of the Satsar group. Undergo the second scheduled army identity verification. Overnight stay in tents at Satsar.
6
The Boulder Traverse: Begin with a demanding 2-hour hop across the large granite boulder fields of Satsar. Ascend steadily up the rocky slopes to reach Zaj Pass (13,500 ft).

Mount Harmukh View: Stand on the ridge to take in the twin lakes: Gangbal and Nundkol, resting beneath the glacier-hung north face of Mount Harmukh (16,870 ft).

The Camp: Make a steep, rocky descent down the ridge, crossing a wooden footbridge over the lake outlet to camp on the grassy banks of Nundkol Lake (11,500 ft). Spend your evening taking in sunset reflections off Mount Harmukh. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
7
The Butsheri Descent: After an early breakfast, begin the final trek day. Cross the meadows of Trunkhol, then begin the grueling, continuous descent down the Butsheri ridge. The trail drops steeply through dense pine and deodar forests over exposed roots and loose dirt, testing quad stamina.

Naranag Roadhead: Arrive at the 8th-century stone temple complex of Naranag (7,450 ft) by early afternoon. Freshen up, celebrate with a cold drink, and board your private SkyGlobals vehicles.

Return to Srinagar: Drive through Ganderbal along the Sindh River, arriving back in Srinagar by 5:30 PM for drop-offs at Srinagar Airport (SXR), the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), or your pre-booked Dal Lake houseboat.
