Overview
1. Driving from Haridwar all the way to Janki Chatti and completing the 12 km round-trip trek to Yamunotri on the same day is impossible. A dedicated staging base in Barkot is mandatory.
2. Trekkers cannot walk 22 km down from Kedarnath to Gaurikund and then drive 8–9 hours to Badrinath on the same day (violates the state's mountain night-driving curfew). A stopover at Pipalkoti / Joshimath is essential.
3. Driving 320 km directly from Badrinath to Haridwar in one continuous mountain run on steep single-lane ghats leads to severe driver fatigue. Breaking the descent at Rudraprayag / Srinagar ensures safety and comfort.
Tour Itinerary
Arrive at Haridwar Junction or Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport (DED). Meet your driver and transfer to your hotel. In the late afternoon, head to the sacred ghats of Har Ki Pauri to witness the Ganga Aarti, with brass lamps and floating flower diyas on the river. Browse the local bazaars for spiritual souvenirs. Overnight stay in Haridwar/Rishikesh.
Depart after an early breakfast, driving past Dehradun and ascending the Shivalik hills toward the Yamuna valley. Stop at Kempty Falls near Mussoorie before continuing via Damta and Naugaon to Barkot, nestled at the foot of Mount Banderpoonch. Check into your hotel/camp. Rest early to prepare for the first trek. Overnight stay in Barkot.
Start before dawn and drive to Janki Chatti (the trek base). Begin the 6 km upward trek along the rugged canyon to Yamunotri Temple (by foot, pony, or doli). Take a holy dip in the natural thermal springs of Surya Kund, cook rice in the boiling water as prasad, and offer prayers at the black-marble shrine of Goddess Yamuna and Divya Shila. Trek back to Janki Chatti and board your vehicle back to Barkot. Overnight stay in Barkot.
Drive along the scenic Bhagirathi River valley to Uttarkashi, the primary spiritual town of northern Garhwal. Check into your hotel. In the afternoon, visit the historic Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttarkashi, housing a massive brass trident (Shakti), and pay respects at the nearby Shakti and Bhairav temples. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi.
Depart early along the breathtaking Bhagirathi gorge via the apple-orchard village of Harsil and the emerald waters of Gangnani thermal springs. Arrive at Gangotri Dham (3,100 m / 10,170 ft). Take a holy dip in the icy Bhagirathi River and attend darshan at the white granite 18th-century temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Drive back down to Uttarkashi by late afternoon. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi.
Embark on an expansive mountain drive crossing from the Bhagirathi valley into the Mandakini valley via Chamba, Tehri Dam view-points, and Tilwara. Arrive in Guptkashi / Phata and check into your hotel. Visit the ancient stone-carved Ardhanarishwar Temple. Complete your biometric verification check for Kedarnath Dham. Overnight stay in Guptkashi / Phata.
Drive to Sonprayag/Gaurikund before dawn. Begin the scenic upward trek (18 km) through the Mandakini river canyon to Kedarnath Dham (3,583 m / 11,755 ft). (Alternatively, board your pre-booked helicopter shuttle from Phata/Sirsi). Arrive on the high-altitude plateau framed by the Kedarnath peak. Check into your basic mountain lodge or GMVN tents. Attend the evening congregational Aarti outside the temple. Overnight stay in Kedarnath.
Attend early morning sanctum darshan to view the Jyotirlinga and catch sunrise glowing over the snowclad mountain walls. Trek down to Gaurikund/Sonprayag (approx. 5–6 hours). Board your private vehicle and drive through the Mandakini and Alaknanda corridors via Chamoli to Pipalkoti / Joshimath. Enjoy a hot dinner and overnight stay in Pipalkoti.
Drive up along the Vishnuprayag gorge to Badrinath Dham (3,133 m / 10,279 ft). Take a dip in the holy sulphur springs of Tapt Kund before entering the Badrinath Temple for darshan of Lord Badri Vishal. Drive 3 km ahead to Mana Village (the last Indian village on the border) to explore Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa, and Bhim Pul over the roaring Saraswati River. Begin the descent drive to Rudraprayag / Srinagar. Check into your riverside hotel. Overnight stay in Rudraprayag.
Drive down along the Ganga corridor. Stop in Rishikesh to walk across the Ram Jhula / Janki Jhula suspension bridges and enjoy a peaceful lunch by the river. Continue down to Haridwar Railway Station or Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport (DED) for your onward flight or train.
